Hmm...

I've decided to keep a log of junk food that I eat. As you can see it didn't last long. I'm trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. I don't want to delete any of the contents, but yet at the same time I'm unsure of why I have this here.

I've been thinking about changing the style of this since I've been reading a few other blogs online. I have a few ideas and I even want to give another shot to a personal background.

I'm thinking of making this a sports blog (yeah who will read it right?) I'm thinking of making it pictures with a few comments here and there. I've been inspired by one person who blogs about spring training each year. It won't be just sports, but of other places I've been before. I finally have pictures of when I was overseas back in 2001? 2002? 2003? and have them scanned. That was the original reason for why I started this blog. I wanted to keep track of my travels and memories that I have.

I'm going to start and blog everyday and take time out each day to do so. I would keep a journal with paper, but then I'd be killing a tree, though I would recycle the paper.

The pictures of random things will be random, but at the same time it will be what I call "post carding". I coined the term while overseas and noticed that people were just taking pictures of the scenery and most of the time when you buy post cards that's what it was. Just a picture to remember the location, but it did have the name of the place so you'd remember.

Anyway, it's late and I've lost an hour of sleep. I'm going to wrap this up and start fresh tomorrow whenever that maybe.

Seven Cups of Coffee a Day May Lead to Hallucinations (Update1)

Jan. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Consuming the caffeine in seven cups of instant coffee a day may leave you more likely to see, hear and smell things that aren’t there, U.K. researchers said.

People who drink at least 330 milligrams of the stimulant a day were three times as likely to have hallucinations as those who consumed less than 10 milligrams a day, Durham University researchers found in a study of 219 college students published today in Personality and Individual Differences.

The study, the first to link caffeine and hallucinations, explored the relationship between high caffeine consumption and an increased release of cortisol, a stress hormone believed to contribute to delusions, lead researcher Simon Jones said. It forms the first step toward examining nutrition as a factor in the occurrence of hallucinations, he said.

“Given the link between food and mood, and particularly between caffeine and the body’s response to stress, it seems sensible to examine what a nutritional perspective might add,” Jones said in a statement.

It may also be that people under stress and more susceptible to hallucinations are also more likely to consume high levels of caffeine, Jones said in an interview. Caffeine is also contained in tea, chocolate, energy drinks, and some foods.

“There would be no real reason for me to stop drinking tea,” said Jones. “I don’t see a reason to change a moderate intake.”

Starbucks

The amount of caffeine linked to hallucinations in the study would also be equivalent to about seven 8-ounce cups of brewed black tea or about 3 1/2 8-ounce cups of brewed black coffee, according to the Mayo Clinic Web site. One 16-ounce Starbucks Corp. drip coffee also has 330 milligrams of caffeine, according to the Starbucks Web site.

Starbucks spokeswoman Tara Darrow declined to comment in an email, saying the Seattle-based company was aware of the research but hadn’t been able to review how it was conducted.

The U.K. researchers used surveys to assess daily caffeine intake and past experience with hallucinations. Cigarette smokers, known to be more sensitive to caffeine, weren’t allowed to participate, and volunteers’ stress levels and proneness to hallucinatory experiences were taken into account.

Nine of the 22 people in the highest-caffeine group reported hearing disembodied voices, compared with three of the 22 people in the lowest-caffeine group, Jones said. Participants also reported seeing things that weren’t there and sensing the presence of dead people.

2009 I hope it's fine...

So I decided that I need to lose a little weight this year and limit my intake of junk food. I have temptations at work (ice cream in the freezer and candy at my desk) will make it a bit of a challenge. I love chips and have two containers of Pringles in the file cabinet.

I am trying to also cut down on the beverages that I drink and don't drink. I would like to drink more water each day. Even if it is tea. New year new me and that's how I'm going to look at it. I know my life is boring and no one reads it, but at least I'm documenting my life and the changes in my life that I'm trying to change.

My best Christmas present was a Phi-Ten necklace that I wear on my wrist and I have since ordered a proper bracelet and sleeves to help my arms.

New toy!

I finally got a working blue tooth that works with my phone! One that charges too! That's the main part that had to work. It was pretty easy to set up. Those that I spoke with couldn't tell I was on blue tooth. I'm happy. It's like I have speaker phone with me without having to stand at one spot. It was a good deal for about $6.50 after rebate.

Clueless?

This morning I''m getting into the car with my Giants jacket on. See picture. My mom asks me, "Are you going to the game?" In my head I was going, "WTF? Are you kidding me?" I replied, "No."

What would cause her to think I was going to a baseball game in October? I'm sure the news would report that the Giants are in the playoffs and there are games. I think it has to be one of those generation things and the fact that my parents live in their own world and not in the 21st century.

I have to begin to wonder if culture is a major part of it. My mom went to one (1) Giants game and that was in 1995 and read a romance novel and thought the game was boring. She tried to learn the game during the season, but never followed through. I don't think she understands why I like baseball.

I'll explain why: it allows me to leave the house. It lets me meet other people. It gives me something to look forward to during the summer and allows me to see the country. Since I've been getting back into baseball it has allowed me to go to places I don't think I would have ever gone to. I've been to New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Illinois, Arizona, Maryland, and a couple of other states. Mostly, it allows me to see things that I've always wanted to see in other cities. When I went to New York, I was able to see the Empire State building and to see the Statue of Liberty, although from a distance, I was still able to see it. I went to the United Nations center. I've been to more Chinatowns around the states that my mom has. Granted I'd rather be going overseas, but seeing this country and what it has to offer has helped me understand why certain cities are bitter and what their main focus is sports. Sports in general bond people together. Baseball, football, basketball, etc. allow people to come together to cheer for a team or a person.

There are cities that I know I will never go back to after being treated a certain way unless it was for business or something. There are those that I would go back to see more and experience more because the time that I was there wasn't enough. I know that I'll be going back to New York because I didn't get to see Shea Stadium. I know I'll be back to Minneapolis because they're getting a new ballpark and I want to see it.

I digressed and now back to the point. Why can't parents pay attention to the news and figure out what's going on? My mom watches her Chinese soap operas and doesn't really know what's going on. I understand that she does a lot of the housework and I try to help out when I can, but she should watch more American shows. Another example would be last week Monday. There was a shooting at 17th and Noriega. She thought it was Sunday. She also wondered why she didn't hear it nor my dad. They were both watching TV and it was a block away. There is also noise from 19th Avenue as well. She asked me if I knew about it and I said no. When I have on the TV the only time I hear any sort of siren is a fire truck. My other thing is would you like to know there was a shooting just up the street from you? I wouldn't. Sometimes it's better to be ignorant that to know the truth.

I think I'm done ranting now.

Horoscope: People are awfully full of themselves today and might make totally unreasonable demands that they think are perfectly normal. Push back as much as you can, but you still may have to cater to them.
