My first job...

My first job out of college was working at a property management company. I started off as a file clerk. I thought, I could do this job. Not too bad. Then when there was an opening for accounts receivable I took the position. I didn't know accounting, but it was a computer system that you used anyways.

Each month at the beginning all you did was just open envelopes and code rent checks. Then there was the tedious task of stamping or endorsing all of those checks and creating deposit slips for them. Oh how that drove me insane when my adding didn't match the system. I'd sit and figure it out and it took me forever. At that point, I thought, I couldn't do this anymore.

It was a job where I learned about rent, evictions, rent increases, and how a heartless boss didn't care or appreciate what she had. I can still remember it being one of the first five days of the month and it was past 2.00pm. I didn't even eat lunch yet, but I still worked through it since all checks had to be deposited by 2.00pm.

My heartless boss didn't care I didn't eat lunch. At that point, that's when I stopped caring. I left the office and enjoyed my lunch away from the office. I can't be sitting in the same area where she didn't know my name and didn't care I didn't have lunch and was starving.

I worked there for a couple of years. Maybe three. I left when I found another job. I just couldn't stand to be there any more, where a heartless women didn't care I didn't have lunch and was starving.

The funniest part was when after I left she sent me an email saying they were looking for my replacement. I laughed. I couldn't believe she sent me that email. She thought I would refer someone to her? Work under those conditions? I don't think I ever really got a bonus except when I first started and told the owner of the company I was going to go on vacation. I think that was the one and only time I felt wanted.

I only kept in touch with someone from there who also left. The others, I have no idea what happen to them.

I thought this was something I wanted to pursue, but in the end, my supervisor left a bad taste in my mouth and I decided that it was great to have that knowledge, but property management isn't my thing.

Simple Life and Shopping

Today is Sunday. A day of rest. However, when working at job where email is a form of communication and also on your phone, it's hard to get the rest you want. You want to have the one day of the week to relax. You want to do chores you haven't had time for all week long.

I find myself using Sunday as a day to relax and get things done and mentally prepare myself for another week of work. It seems no one tells you that life is like this. You wake up every morning Monday to Friday working for a paycheck. This paycheck allows you to spend it on items that you need. Such as food, water, housing, transportation, and clothing.

However, when you don't have the time to spend it on one of those things such as clothing, you wonder what is something you can splurge on? Online shopping? Buying random items you see when you're in the store because it's an impulse buy, but at the same time it's something you want to treat yourself to.

I have for myself, found that online shopping is my new hobby. I go on a website every day and check to see what can I purchase at a discount (yes because I'm frugal) and then make the choice to keep the item or return an item. The best part is that I have 90 days to figure this out.

I've been purchasing items from Hautelook. Think of this place as a Groupon for clothes, jewelry, shoes, home goods, for men women and children.

The only downsides to this site is that, you must have $100 in order to get free shipping. You are limited to 15 minutes once you place the item in your cart to purchase, otherwise it gets put back into inventory.

Overall, I've found the trick is to be signed in, but not completely signed in. Next you have all the tabs with the items that you want to buy. You have to make sure it's the size that you want. They also work with Nordstrom Rack so if you don't have enough to get $100 on Hautelook feel free to add any item from Nordstrom Rack first then add the items on Hautelook to your card.

Once you have done that click the check out button. You should see all the items that you would like to purchase at once and the clock still counting down from 15 minutes. This should allow you to purchase the items all at once.

If you have a Nordstrom Rack close by, this is the best way to pick up items online for an even greater discount than Nordstrom Rack. I also went looking on the shelves to see if an item I returned was placed on the shelf at the same price as Hautelook. It was. It does take some time for the item to show up on the shelf, but I'm not sure how long. I think the items do go fast off the shelf since it is a lot cheaper than what's usually at the store.

So one person's return is another person's treasure find at the store. For those serial shoppers, this is a store you'll want to visit, because you never know who and when something will be returned form a Hautelook order.

Also, be careful what you purchase. Some items are final sale and cannot be returned. Please check the return policy before purchasing. Make up, make up brushes, hair brushes, skin care products, home goods, and hair products are not returnable.
