My first job...

My first job out of college was working at a property management company. I started off as a file clerk. I thought, I could do this job. Not too bad. Then when there was an opening for accounts receivable I took the position. I didn't know accounting, but it was a computer system that you used anyways.

Each month at the beginning all you did was just open envelopes and code rent checks. Then there was the tedious task of stamping or endorsing all of those checks and creating deposit slips for them. Oh how that drove me insane when my adding didn't match the system. I'd sit and figure it out and it took me forever. At that point, I thought, I couldn't do this anymore.

It was a job where I learned about rent, evictions, rent increases, and how a heartless boss didn't care or appreciate what she had. I can still remember it being one of the first five days of the month and it was past 2.00pm. I didn't even eat lunch yet, but I still worked through it since all checks had to be deposited by 2.00pm.

My heartless boss didn't care I didn't eat lunch. At that point, that's when I stopped caring. I left the office and enjoyed my lunch away from the office. I can't be sitting in the same area where she didn't know my name and didn't care I didn't have lunch and was starving.

I worked there for a couple of years. Maybe three. I left when I found another job. I just couldn't stand to be there any more, where a heartless women didn't care I didn't have lunch and was starving.

The funniest part was when after I left she sent me an email saying they were looking for my replacement. I laughed. I couldn't believe she sent me that email. She thought I would refer someone to her? Work under those conditions? I don't think I ever really got a bonus except when I first started and told the owner of the company I was going to go on vacation. I think that was the one and only time I felt wanted.

I only kept in touch with someone from there who also left. The others, I have no idea what happen to them.

I thought this was something I wanted to pursue, but in the end, my supervisor left a bad taste in my mouth and I decided that it was great to have that knowledge, but property management isn't my thing.

Simple Life and Shopping

Today is Sunday. A day of rest. However, when working at job where email is a form of communication and also on your phone, it's hard to get the rest you want. You want to have the one day of the week to relax. You want to do chores you haven't had time for all week long.

I find myself using Sunday as a day to relax and get things done and mentally prepare myself for another week of work. It seems no one tells you that life is like this. You wake up every morning Monday to Friday working for a paycheck. This paycheck allows you to spend it on items that you need. Such as food, water, housing, transportation, and clothing.

However, when you don't have the time to spend it on one of those things such as clothing, you wonder what is something you can splurge on? Online shopping? Buying random items you see when you're in the store because it's an impulse buy, but at the same time it's something you want to treat yourself to.

I have for myself, found that online shopping is my new hobby. I go on a website every day and check to see what can I purchase at a discount (yes because I'm frugal) and then make the choice to keep the item or return an item. The best part is that I have 90 days to figure this out.

I've been purchasing items from Hautelook. Think of this place as a Groupon for clothes, jewelry, shoes, home goods, for men women and children.

The only downsides to this site is that, you must have $100 in order to get free shipping. You are limited to 15 minutes once you place the item in your cart to purchase, otherwise it gets put back into inventory.

Overall, I've found the trick is to be signed in, but not completely signed in. Next you have all the tabs with the items that you want to buy. You have to make sure it's the size that you want. They also work with Nordstrom Rack so if you don't have enough to get $100 on Hautelook feel free to add any item from Nordstrom Rack first then add the items on Hautelook to your card.

Once you have done that click the check out button. You should see all the items that you would like to purchase at once and the clock still counting down from 15 minutes. This should allow you to purchase the items all at once.

If you have a Nordstrom Rack close by, this is the best way to pick up items online for an even greater discount than Nordstrom Rack. I also went looking on the shelves to see if an item I returned was placed on the shelf at the same price as Hautelook. It was. It does take some time for the item to show up on the shelf, but I'm not sure how long. I think the items do go fast off the shelf since it is a lot cheaper than what's usually at the store.

So one person's return is another person's treasure find at the store. For those serial shoppers, this is a store you'll want to visit, because you never know who and when something will be returned form a Hautelook order.

Also, be careful what you purchase. Some items are final sale and cannot be returned. Please check the return policy before purchasing. Make up, make up brushes, hair brushes, skin care products, home goods, and hair products are not returnable.

Life changes...

As I’m nearing the end of my twenties and heading toward my thirties I see a lot of change. So far I’ve noticed that a lot of people either got engaged last year or this year. Then there are the weddings. So a lot are getting married.

My own cousins got engaged I guess earlier this year and one of them is now getting married. My other cousin who’s two days younger than me is engaged and going to be married probably next year or later this year.

It really makes you think about those around you and yourself. Have you or will you meet the person you will spend the rest of your life with? Is time catching up with you? Are you to take the next step if you have found that person? How long does it take for you to know that the person you’re with is the person you’re going to spend the rest of your life with?

How do you know? Do you spend time thinking about them? Do you wish you were with them? Do you miss them when they’re not here?

I just hope one day I meet the person I’ll spend the rest of my life with.

Capricorn Horoscope: You may be having a hard time reaching people today -- but it's not your fault! They are just having a hard time picking up on even the most obvious messages, so you need to work around their blocks.

Bus surfing...

I thought about this one day while on my commute to work. I thought of how I used to "bus surf". What is "bus surfing"? Here's how I define it and how it happened. When I was younger and was fearless I used to ride the 38 Geary line. This was if I wasn't lucky and if on the way home we found a transfer. While I was on the bus I knew I was suppose to hold on to one of the bars, but I didn't. Instead I would try and balance. Maybe it's more like skate boarding. I don't know, but either way I would try not to fly or fall while on the bus without holding on.

This soon later came in handy when I would ride other buses and the light rail. I still surf on the light rail today. You just stand like you're surfing and light rail surfing goes.

Horoscope: It's never too late (or too soon) to start paying attention to your health.

African American light rail driver...

My complaint today is this African American light rail driver. I had an incident with her last year and I'm still fuming about it. Today's issue was this: the driver had the option of opening all the doors to make it more efficient for people to get on and off.

Well she opened all the doors so people can get on. Of course I was still waiting to get on because people were still exiting from the door I was waiting at. As I'm getting on to the light rail car she hits the button to close the door. Lady! I'm not even on the train and you're closing the doors on me. Is this revenge for when I gave you a coupon for discount that had no date stamp? Or was it from the other time when I did have the correct date and you were too blind to read it?

It must be the second one because at Cole and Carl street you did the same thing. I understand you got to get to where you're going, but you have to let people on. You didn't even see the guy wearing the florescent yellow jacket selling transfers to those that were getting on. You didn't check your mirrors. And of all the days today you remembered to put the steps up while you just enter the tunnel. Bravo to you because most of the time you're putting them up as we're at Van Ness.

You should have common sense lady. I don't know how you got your job, but I think you're doing a crappy job at it. You try to announce the main stops that people get on and off at, but you fail to call it by the correct name. It's not UC Medical Center. It's USCF Medical Center. I don't think you need to announce the mall at 7.30am. No one is going to the mall at 7.30am.

Horoscope: If you aren't ready to end things, don't slam the door. Leave it open just a crack.

Commuting pet peeves...

Every morning it's the same thing, just different stupid people. I've observed that some drivers who drive the light rail cars will either open all the doors or just the one door in which people need to pay. I don't know which way is more efficient, but as someone who has used this form of public transit I get it. I've been riding the light rail system since I started middle school. That has been since 1992 or 1993.

The old street cars or light rail cars you has to enter through the front door and all the side doors were for exiting only. However, they slowly retired the older ones and are now using the current silver French made ones.

Now back to my issue with people and doors. If a door is closing and someone uses a foot or arm or anything to keep the door from closing it will make a high pitch noise. This isn't pleasant and if you're half awake in the morning even more annoying. The next issue I have is that while the people are trying to get off they don't know that they have to press the bar to open. If everyone did that and held the doors open, they wouldn't be out of service nor make that high pitch beep.

My second thing is when the driver chooses not to open all the doors to let everyone on or off at the same time people don't know how to press the button outside of the car to open the door. I've noticed that they all run to the door that's open and hope it stays open. Also when the doors don't open automatically and it's open from the inside no one seems to understand you need to hold the bar to keep the door from closing. I've had the door almost close on me because people don't understand that concept.

Now I'm assuming that everyone that rides the light rail knows how to open the door from the outside and the inside. If you're going to stand by the door at least press the bar and keep the door open so people can get on or off. If you're just going to stand there and do nothing then move away from the door. I can't stand those that just move to be close to the door and don't do anything to let people off.

So the moral of this bitching and moaning is that: use the bar on the inside of the light rail to OPEN the door. Use the button on the outside of the door to OPEN the door. I swear sometimes you wonder if the people getting on in the morning have a brain or if they left it at home. I'm sure it's not their first time riding the light rail so keep the fucking door open!

Horoscope: Take charge and make it happen. You can get more done than you think at the moment.

The Best Thing I Ever Ate...

One night I was bored. I found myself on the Food Network. I saw the strangest yet fascinating show on. The show's name, The Best Thing I Ever Ate. I started to watch and thought, the people on the show are professionals and they should know what's the best thing to eat.

After watching one episode I am now hooked. I might not watch it, but I always check out the website to find out if there are any places in San Francisco worth trying. Much to my surprise there actually are. They're in Bay Area, which would cover more than San Francisco.

I went to Food Network and decided to make a map of my own. And this is what became of it:

View Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate Map in a larger map

I admit it's not pretty, but once I start something I try to maintain it. There's a lot of places and if you get the chance go and try them out.

She's just not that into you...

This is my usual pattern on my way home. I get on BART. I enter about mid way, which is about car five or six depending on the length. I enter the car and I walk either backwards or forward depending on if I’m going to the new mall or straight home. While walking though each car I look at all the seats. I’m looking for either the Chronicle or the Mercury (or equivalent). The sections I usually read are the sports and entertainment (datebook or time out). I happen to find the whole paper and was going to take a little bit of time to read the usual sections and then browse the rest of the paper.

As I start reading a guy comes up to me and starts talking to me. He got on at Concord or North Concord. He makes small talk about how people leave their paper on the train. Yes, people leave it on the train I reply. He then asks if he could have the paper. I haven’t even read the whole thing yet, so I say OK. He asks me what I usually read. I tell him what I read. By this time I’m done reading the entertainment section and I ask him for the sports section. He asks me what kind of sports is reported. Again I reply with all kinds that are local teams. He asks me what I’m reading and I tell him I’m looking to find any baseball news.

After I’m done reading I hand the section back to him. So this point he has the whole paper. I take out my note pad and write something down for work. I put that away and then I take out my ipod. I get comfortable with my seating and try to rest. I’m tired when I get off work and usually like to nap on the ride home.

I’m resting my eyes and the guy who was talking to me starts to crack his knuckles. First I think that’s gross and second he’s making noise. After he’s done cracking his knuckles he starts to snap his fingers or whatever making noise. At this point I’m getting pissed because he’s disturbing my nap time.

Nap and tired plus a guy making noise equals I’m going to be a grumpy person. He finally gets off at Orinda. I wasn’t facing him with my body language and by putting on my ipod it pretty much means shut up and leave me alone. I guess he didn’t understand that. If he was trying to flirt with me he wasn’t getting any response.
I don’t mind if you ask me when you get on for the paper when I’m done, but to ask me while I just have it sitting there is just rude. You didn’t even ask if I was done with it. Being nice I’ll just give it to you and keep the section that I want. Dude. I’m JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU. You’re pissing me off and I’m tired. I don’t want to be bothered on the fucking train.

I’m glad your ass got off the train and that your stupid finger snapping left with you. If I ever come across you again I’m going to cuss you out.
This is why you don’t bother a Chinese girl sleeping on the train.

Horoscope: Today, take a break from the breakneck pace you've been going at. You need a rest!

The N Judah...

Over a period of a week I thought I would just observe what kind of people right the light rial in the morning and in the evening. This is what I have observed and this is my story.

There is one lady who wears a messenger bag and as soon as the N gets to Van Ness she will move into her position. She moves from wherever she is and stands right by the door. This is when the car is full just so when the N gets to Civic Center she can dash out of the N. This isn't good because everyone that gets off to let others off can't really cram back on due to her. Shame on you.

I notice a girl with orange hair. I wonder if it's a weave as she is African American. I then notice an older lady with the same except her hair is red and orange. Later in the week I find out they are mother and daughter. They do not sit together. The daughter gets off at Church and Duboce and the mother gets off at Van Ness.

The next person is this man with a leather jacket. He gets on the N at Carl and Cole. If I remember correctly. He gets on and then proceeds to just stand in a military stance for "at ease". He doesn't hold on to anything. He just shifts around as needed. Very odd.

My biggest enemy is the one African American lady who I got into an argument with back when I had to take the N to work. I had one of those coupons that had a date with a later time. I pick them up when I get off Bart when I exit when I'm going home. One part is for taking Muni that same day the other half is for the next day. She said that it wasn't the correct date. I told her it was the correct date and that it was good. Sure the time was for later in the afternoon, but that's when I picked it up. Then she told me over the intercom to calm down. Calm down!? I'm not the one that didn't know that the date on the coupon was the exact same date as the transfers she was handing out. I was so mad at her. What really grinds my gears is that she doesn't raise the steps on the N until the car is in the tunnel and or even at Van Ness. She has no clue and she tries to sound nice by telling everyone to have a good day. She's an absolute phony!

There's this Asian kid who sits either on the first car or the second car. I want to say he's in speical education but I don't think I'm wrong on this one. He looks at his watch to make sure he's on time. He gets off at Van Ness every day there is school. He speaks to everyone and it seems like he's practicing his English or what he's learned in school. He says, "Have a good weekend. How are you doing? Let me off. (If he's at his stop and there are people blocking him.)" He also compliments people on their clothes and I think he says the time out loud.

The one that I've seen every once in a while is a dad taking his two sons to school. The younger son wears a sailor suit and the older one wears his uniform. I think both are uniforms, but the younger one has to wear a different one. The older brother can't stand his younger brother as that's how it is. I sat next to the younger brother and he took out a note pad that he drew a "computer". He was treating it as if it was one. His imagination is probably what annoys his older brother. The older one reads while on the N.

This is more than one week, but just what I have observed over six months.

Horoscope: Get outside and do something exciting! A whole world is waiting for you.

Hmm...

I've decided to keep a log of junk food that I eat. As you can see it didn't last long. I'm trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. I don't want to delete any of the contents, but yet at the same time I'm unsure of why I have this here.

I've been thinking about changing the style of this since I've been reading a few other blogs online. I have a few ideas and I even want to give another shot to a personal background.

I'm thinking of making this a sports blog (yeah who will read it right?) I'm thinking of making it pictures with a few comments here and there. I've been inspired by one person who blogs about spring training each year. It won't be just sports, but of other places I've been before. I finally have pictures of when I was overseas back in 2001? 2002? 2003? and have them scanned. That was the original reason for why I started this blog. I wanted to keep track of my travels and memories that I have.

I'm going to start and blog everyday and take time out each day to do so. I would keep a journal with paper, but then I'd be killing a tree, though I would recycle the paper.

The pictures of random things will be random, but at the same time it will be what I call "post carding". I coined the term while overseas and noticed that people were just taking pictures of the scenery and most of the time when you buy post cards that's what it was. Just a picture to remember the location, but it did have the name of the place so you'd remember.

Anyway, it's late and I've lost an hour of sleep. I'm going to wrap this up and start fresh tomorrow whenever that maybe.

2009 I hope it's fine...

So I decided that I need to lose a little weight this year and limit my intake of junk food. I have temptations at work (ice cream in the freezer and candy at my desk) will make it a bit of a challenge. I love chips and have two containers of Pringles in the file cabinet.

I am trying to also cut down on the beverages that I drink and don't drink. I would like to drink more water each day. Even if it is tea. New year new me and that's how I'm going to look at it. I know my life is boring and no one reads it, but at least I'm documenting my life and the changes in my life that I'm trying to change.

My best Christmas present was a Phi-Ten necklace that I wear on my wrist and I have since ordered a proper bracelet and sleeves to help my arms.

Clueless?

This morning I''m getting into the car with my Giants jacket on. See picture. My mom asks me, "Are you going to the game?" In my head I was going, "WTF? Are you kidding me?" I replied, "No."

What would cause her to think I was going to a baseball game in October? I'm sure the news would report that the Giants are in the playoffs and there are games. I think it has to be one of those generation things and the fact that my parents live in their own world and not in the 21st century.

I have to begin to wonder if culture is a major part of it. My mom went to one (1) Giants game and that was in 1995 and read a romance novel and thought the game was boring. She tried to learn the game during the season, but never followed through. I don't think she understands why I like baseball.

I'll explain why: it allows me to leave the house. It lets me meet other people. It gives me something to look forward to during the summer and allows me to see the country. Since I've been getting back into baseball it has allowed me to go to places I don't think I would have ever gone to. I've been to New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Illinois, Arizona, Maryland, and a couple of other states. Mostly, it allows me to see things that I've always wanted to see in other cities. When I went to New York, I was able to see the Empire State building and to see the Statue of Liberty, although from a distance, I was still able to see it. I went to the United Nations center. I've been to more Chinatowns around the states that my mom has. Granted I'd rather be going overseas, but seeing this country and what it has to offer has helped me understand why certain cities are bitter and what their main focus is sports. Sports in general bond people together. Baseball, football, basketball, etc. allow people to come together to cheer for a team or a person.

There are cities that I know I will never go back to after being treated a certain way unless it was for business or something. There are those that I would go back to see more and experience more because the time that I was there wasn't enough. I know that I'll be going back to New York because I didn't get to see Shea Stadium. I know I'll be back to Minneapolis because they're getting a new ballpark and I want to see it.

I digressed and now back to the point. Why can't parents pay attention to the news and figure out what's going on? My mom watches her Chinese soap operas and doesn't really know what's going on. I understand that she does a lot of the housework and I try to help out when I can, but she should watch more American shows. Another example would be last week Monday. There was a shooting at 17th and Noriega. She thought it was Sunday. She also wondered why she didn't hear it nor my dad. They were both watching TV and it was a block away. There is also noise from 19th Avenue as well. She asked me if I knew about it and I said no. When I have on the TV the only time I hear any sort of siren is a fire truck. My other thing is would you like to know there was a shooting just up the street from you? I wouldn't. Sometimes it's better to be ignorant that to know the truth.

I think I'm done ranting now.

Horoscope: People are awfully full of themselves today and might make totally unreasonable demands that they think are perfectly normal. Push back as much as you can, but you still may have to cater to them.

Why is there the pressure from parent to get married??

I went to my grandpa's birthday yesterday and my mom was talking with my step grandmother's sister (not sure the correct term is) and her daughter. Why is it such a fascination with others to ask why isn't your daughter dating?

Last time I checked it was the person who is single that was the one finding a boyfriend and then getting married. Anyway back to my story, the daughter was saying you can't force someone to find someone to get married to. Honestly, I totally agree. It's like why can a guy be a bachelor and why can't a girl be a bachelorette? Her mother was saying all she does is go out and have fun. My mom was saying well at least she meets other people. Then my mother goes, all she does it go to baseball games with old people. Um, excuse me. There aren't "OLD" people there.

There are many people there. Hell I could have gone to a singles night event which is a giant hook up party with alcohol, but I choose not to because the guys there are only after some loving and not a real person.

I think sometimes you meet the person in the strangest places and under the strangest circumstances. I bet my mom doesn't know how her coworker who's getting married next month met. It was through Craigslist. People can meet people and if they get along it's great. If they don't get along then that's another story.

If anything my mother should just give up on me finding someone to be with. Honestly, I haven't done everything I wanted to do yet. Why would I want to be married and have a family if I haven't done everything I wanted when I was single? I mean there are places I want to see either with friends or just alone so that maybe I can hope that the one special person is out there for me. It's not like my mother hooks me up with people. She doesn't go, oh so and so's son is single. Goodness, if you want me to meet someone either do it the old fashion way of a blind date or by introduction.

Just because you got married young and had kids, doesn't mean I will do the same. The times are different and you fail to recognize that. I do want to get married and have children someday, but not right now. I like going on vacations to other places I haven't been before. Because once you have children, you'll have to wait until they're old enough to take care of themselves before you can go. Who knows what you'll be like later on in life. I'd rather do the carpe diem (seize the day) now.

When and if I meet the perfect guy and if I think he's totally the one for me, I'm sure you'll be so happy that you won't even care what he looks like or anything. God, my family is not normal at all, and I don't think others are either.

Horoscope: Today should bring quite a few accomplishments your way and set you up for even greater success in the future! It's a great time for you to slow down and take everything as it comes. You've gotten a lot achieved recently, but don't get too hung on being productive.

Did you ever wonder what happned to music?

I went to an event and there was music being played. I knew most of the songs that were almost twice as old as myself. It got me thinking what the hell happened to music? It's just not something that is timeless anymore. I mean the remakes of some songs are great because it turns it a bit more modern, but still the original is fine.

The songs today are crazy. An example would have to be Black Eye Peas My Humps. It's talking about her butt. A song about her ass? Ok, I guess that there have been other songs about "ass", but how many can you name besides Sir Mix-A-Lot and Baby Got Back, Back That Ass Up by Juvenile, and Wreckx-N-Effect Rumpshaker.

Horoscope: It's a great day to commune with nature -- or as close as you can get to it, anyway. Your connection with the real world is deep and potent, so get out there and take in the fresh air for a while!

Day 4 Allergies...

You know this year totally sucks. I have been sick at least twice in the past two months and at almost the same time. This is terrible. With no insurance and having to buy it myself I'm a little reserve about buying any at all.

I'm feeling better, but as I watch the news and see winds in the inland parts it gets me scared as I will start sneezing and it'll make me miserable. At least tonight I can stay home and just chill out. It's a Lincecum night and I'm dying to see how much this kid can do. It's like my little brother is a baseball player and is taking the mound. My mind is so warped, but he is around my brother's age.

I'm just looking forward to when I can be healthy as healthy is for me without tissues and cold and cough medicine.

Horoscope: A friend or coworker suggests a scheme that seems to wild to even consider. Let it roll around in your mind, but make sure you're just as skeptical toward this as you would be if a stranger suggested it.

I finally activated my phone!

Yes, I have. It only took me 3 months to do so. Maybe a little less. Maybe exactly 3 months. Oh whatever. Here is a picture of the model. I am super slow and had I known (and I did) you could call 611 from the phone it would have been activated already. I figured well since I'm going away and I have a case for it time to activate it. I think I know how to use it.

Monkey doing OK...for now...

I'm doing alright for now as I stated. Lots has happened since I turned another year older and not sure about being any wiser. Life is still a mystery to me. If anyone has a guide to life please forward it to me.

Baseball season is almost upon us and I'm hoping that I get to go for this year. It'll be my last year with out the Dodgers and definitely something I'll be savoring one last time. After this year, I don't know if I'll be heading over to Scottsdale for some rest and relaxation.

I know that it'll be a year without anyone that I know since, most of the players that I do know have left. OK, so the relief pitchers don't count as much, but the one player that does is gone. Mark Sweeney. I have been a fan of his since I met him in 2006. That was just the best moment. I don't know if I'll see him differently this year since he'll be in a different jersey, but I still like him as a person. Forget the jersey that he's wearing.

It's less than a month away until I get to see baseball players again. I'm sure they've missed me, but some I think are just scared of me. Either way I must not scare them too much, but rather make friends with them so I get good stuff during the regular season. If Mark was around he'd toss me a ball and I'd be happy girl.

Horoscope: Watch out for trouble at work, especially if you're your own boss. You may need to deal with sharky competitors or clients who don't want to pay, but you can handle them all with your usual firm competence.
