I have truly lost my mind...like you didn't know?

This arrived in the mail for me today. I got a monkey coin purse. I need the monkey bank and the monkey plate and maybe the monkey earrings and then I'm set. I have the key chain already and the stuffed monkey. I will turn into a monkey sooner or later.

The wind today was loud. I mean it was loud! I thought it was an earthquake a few times. I'm getting ready for bed and to take it easy. The first time maybe I'll be sleeping before midnight. Shocker I know. I am ending this and going to bed. Sleep. I need sleep. After going to bed late last night I think I have to tonight.

WTF?!?!?

Today I got something that I bought on eBay for $12.00. I didn't even open it and I shook the bag to see what was inside. It was my plate. I also bought something else, but it didn't come. I sent an email to the person and included a picture of it. And I WOULD NOT break it just for the hell of it you know? Plus the fact that it was $4.05 for shipping and another $4.00 for "special" packaging is a lot of SHIT. It was wrapped with a little bit of bubble wrap and then maybe a section of the newspaper tossed into one of those priority mail envelopes that are the "plastic" like kind. Um, I don't think they were thinking. They told me "Oh I thought I had done a better job." WTF? You have to either put it into a box or at least into a bubble envelope or if you were going to use the one you sent it in, at least put in a lot of newspaper or something to cushion it.

I got a response with I'll refund you if you send it back or I can ask the post office. Either way I think I do deserve the refund in full. It's not like I'm going to glue it back and sell it. I really wanted this, but to have it cracked in half made me disappointed in how stupid people are.

I tried this morning to take a picture of McAfee with the new tarp around it. This is what it should look like after it's all done. Right now they don't have the O in Oakland or the D in Oakland. They're not done covering the whole thing.

Happy President's Day!

I woke up this morning thinking that I had to go to work. I forgot to turn off the alarm so I did get up at 6.25 a.m. Then I did actually get up about 10.25 a.m. when Regis and Kelly was on. I ended up talking for a little while and being an admin to a website.

I got ready to leave the house 3 times. Yes, 3 times. I locked the door came back, locked the door, and left the house and came back. Geez, I don't know why. I ended up walking to my friend's house. I think that was almost 2 miles. The actual distance was 1.83 miles.

While waiting for the bus I was side swiped with by a pigeon.

We arrived downtown and went shopping. I bought a few things which was shocking because I wasn't looking to buy anything, but I did. I mean I knew I was, but not what I bought. I bought two pairs of capris. These are actual capris, but to me they'd be pants I guess. I didn't try them on. I just bought them.

We then went to Westfield to go to Nine West. We are blind. We didn't see the store, but they had some really cute shoes. See picture with two shoes.
Then we went to Macy*s and found the perfect shoes. I mean they were comfortable and after walking around for a while I'm sure they had to be comfortable. I mean they looked cute and they weren't too high. Too bad the price of the shoes were higher than I wanted to spend. They looked so cute though. I mean as a girl and someone who doesn't shop a lot, these shoes were cute. The fact they weren't on sale made it a bummer. I spend the rest of the time looking for replacement shoes.
See single shoe picture.

After all that I did sort of find a pair of shoes. I think I'll go back and get them if I can't find them somewhere else. This whole day I must have spent it walking at least 5 miles. I went into Forever 21, Old Navy, Ross, Macy*s twice, Shoe Pavilion, DSW Shoes, FCUK, The Gap, and Walgreen twice. My feet need rest and so do I.

It was nice spending time with a coworker and catching up on the company. I believe the company is not going to have an easy year.

Horoscope: If you want to make headway, focus on your objective. Ignore the distracting drama. Daydreams are extremely fun, but don't let them get out of hand. If you're so distracted that you're not taking care of some tasks that need immediate attention, it's time to find a way to focus.

Sleep is beautiful...

Another day of wonderful blissful sleep. To think that I would get to sleep until at least noon is a blessing. The baseball god must be watching over me. When I woke up I started to look for food. You know a person needs something to get the energy going. Then I thought I had to have some sort of caffeine in me. I know that sounds strange, but it seems like a day without it I get headaches and that's a bad thing. Afterwards, I watched some curling. Something about the sport that makes you go huh?

It's kind of strange watching people with brooms and something that looks like a kettle. Honestly, I think I'm the only one that makes these sort of associations. Who else would think of it? At least I saw the segment that explains how and why they do the things they do.

I did a load of laundry today. I was running out of trousers. I have enough shirts, but I think I need to shop for a couple more. I can only wear the same thing so often right? I think I better invest in a sweater too. Or at least a cardigan. Tomorrow's goal is to find a few more items I can wear to work. I also have to look for work shoes too. Damn it.

Horoscope: Focus on the positive, not the negative, today. You have control over all decisions. Has the answer been staring you in the face this entire time? It's just like what the wise Dorothy Gale once said about finding everything she needed in her own backyard. Look closer to home.

Sleep is good...

Oh how I miss sleeping in on weekends. Today was pretty good. The only thing to actually disturb me was nature. Yes, nature has a strange way of waking up a person. Hail did it. The hail was strange, but then again a welcome from rain.

I reported my check card semi-stolen last week and I got my replacement today. It's a Gold Debit card. When I opened it I thought I signed up for a new card. Then I went to the www.wamu.com website and found out they're changing it from Visa to MasterCard. It's so strange looking. The hologram says "Debit".

I cleaned up my room and did some checking of the CD rates. I worked out how much I'm going to take out from the mature CD and if I was going to put it into another one. I vacuumed my room a little. It still needs work, but overall I'm happy with it. I did fold my socks and found a few missing. I'm wondering if I have sock gnomes or something.

Horoscope: Someone is pulling away from the group. Reach out and find out why they're detached. Look to higher sources -- including the ones that are within you -- to get a new perspective on a thorny situation that's been troubling you. You have the right answers. The only trick is to access them.

Chocolate in the news...

Chocolate's bittersweet health effects
Plus: Simple tactics to avoid overeating at work

By Kristen Gerencher, MarketWatch
Last Update: 7:06 PM ET Feb 13, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- If chocolate will be a part of your Valentine's Day, consider this treat: the dark variety especially is believed to have heart-health benefits.

The cocoa in chocolate contains antioxidants known as flavonoids, which studies say may prove beneficial in reducing age-related blood-pressure increases by loosening up blood vessels that have gotten stiff, nutrition experts said.

But not all chocolate is created equal. Dark chocolate tends to have significantly more antioxidants than milk chocolate, which some may find tough to swallow, said Joe Vinson, a chemistry professor at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. Because it doesn't contain any cocoa, white chocolate has no antioxidants.

"Pretty much you've got to go with dark and you have to go with dark with a lot of cocoa, i.e. very bitter," he said. "You have to get used to the taste."

There's an even bigger catch. People have to weigh the beneficial plant chemicals against the calories, fat and sugar that can tip the health scale in the opposite direction if they consume too much.

"The calories are working against you for heart disease," Vinson said. "Obesity is not what you want for eating chocolate because that will defeat all the benefit."
The American Heart Association (AHA) doesn't take a position on chocolate's supposed health benefits mainly because the fat content is too high, said Penny Kris-Etherton, a registered dietician who serves on AHA's nutrition committee.

"It's a plant food, and we know that fruits and vegetables have all these wonderful effects associated with them," she said. "The problem with chocolate is it's not eaten as a plant food....We eat it as a confectionery product. We add often times butter fat, cocoa butter and sugar to it."

To get the maximum possible health benefit, consumers should look for chocolate made up of at least 70% cocoa, said Jeannie Moloo, registered dietician in Sacramento, Calif., and spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association.

Consumers also should look out for partially hydrogenated oils in the ingredient label, which are generally added to processed foods and contain trans fats that are harmful to cardiovascular health, she said. "You may find those partially hydrogenated oils in chocolate chips, for example, which would then certainly counterbalance any positive effect."

As of this year, companies are required to post trans fat content on products' nutrition panels. But the U.S. Food and Drug Administration allows firms to list zero trans fat on the label if the contents have less than half a gram of trans fat per serving.

Trans fat consumption should be kept to the lowest possible levels, Moloo said, noting the ADA recommends keeping total fat to fewer than 30% of total daily calories and saturated fat to fewer than 10%.

Many fruits, vegetables, whole grains and tea also provide antioxidant benefits, she said. "There certainly are other less caloric foods that are going to give you just as much of an antioxidant punch -- maybe more in some cases -- for fewer calories."

Avoiding chocolate-popping

And if surplus Valentine's candy makes its way into your office, a recent study offers a way for deskbound workers to trick themselves into avoiding the chocolate temptation.

Making sweets less visible and out of reach can help control the amount of mindless eating workers engage in, said Brian Wansink, professor of marketing, applied economics and nutritional science at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
Wansink and his co-authors supplied 40 female faculty and staff with 30 Hershey Kisses and varied the treats' placement in clear and opaque containers both on their desks and six feet out of their way. He tracked their daily consumption after they left at night and refilled the jars.

Not only did participants eat less when the candy was invisible and the jars were farther away, but they were more accurate in estimating their behavior when obtaining the candy required them to move around.

When the chocolates were in clear containers on their desks, the women ate an average of 7.7 each day, according to the study. They gobbled 4.6 pieces when the treats were in opaque containers on the desk, 5.6 when in clear jars six feet away and average 3.1 when in opaque jars placed at the same distance from them.

"It wasn't inconvenience that was restricting how much they consumed those six feet away," Wansink said. "It was that it gave them a chance to ask themselves if they were really hungry."
"People pretty grossly underestimate how much they eat if it's convenient, but if it's inconvenient they're more accurate," he said.

"People who have to get up are reasonably accurate in estimating how much they've eaten. But if it's just an arm's length away people say 'I think I had five.' 'No no, you had nine!'"

The findings may seem simple, but applying such tactics may help people stave off weight creep and related health risks, Wansink said.

"If you eat 150 extra calories every day for the next year, you're going to be 15 pounds fatter 12 months from now." End of Story
