Mohr better than expected **UPDATE**

09/30/2004 10:07 PM ET
SAN DIEGO -- As Stan Conte raced toward the visitors' bullpen mound at PETCO Park on Wednesday night, watching right fielder Dustan Mohr lying in the dirt and in obvious pain, the Giants trainer feared the worst.

A broken leg. Knee tendons ripped from their moorings. Surgery.

Amazingly, Mohr's condition apparently isn't as dreadful as Conte thought, with the outfielder's left patellar tendon strained, not ruptured, and the anterior cruciate ligament OK. Flown to San Francisco for an MRI test Thursday, Mohr was to be examined by team orthopedist Dr. Ken Akizuki but then will fly to Los Angeles for the Giants' series there starting Friday.

Mohr was injured while chasing a foul popup in the 10th inning of the Giants-Padres contest. He caught the ball on the bullpen mound, stumbled, twisting his knee, then sprawled on the ground, still clutching the baseball. It was a sacrifice fly, as Kerry Robinson tagged third and scored, giving San Diego at 4-3 victory.

"The MRI will confirm that there's nothing wrong with the [AC ligament]," said Conte. "Best-case scenario, he has a strained tendon and whether we can get him back for the regular season is debatable. We have no way of knowing."

Conte said Mohr's knee was quite painful Wednesday night but better Thursday with minimal swelling.

"Those are all good signs that it wasn't a real bad injury," said Conte. "It's difficult to tell until we get the results of the MRI. It's better than I thought when I ran out to see it or when I was there. It could have been an ugly situation."

The trainer said Mohr felt something in his knee and fell right away, probably preventing a more serious injury.

"He's flying back no matter what," said Conte, "because he wants to be with the team."

Giants manager Felipe Alou was glad Mohr will be rejoining the squad in Los Angeles even if he can't play.

"Our guys are feeling better because it wasn't as bad as it could have been -- it's not a broken leg," said Alou. "It's important that he'll be here. Last night, even the Padres players didn't celebrate [the win] that much and watched Mohr to find out what was happening. Bottom line, they care for other players."

The 28-year-old Mohr blossomed into a semi-starter after early struggles and became a fan favorite with his spirited defensive play and team-first attitude. Mohr is third on the club with a .397 on-base percentage and was hitting. 301 over his last 98 games.

"You'll always find him in the tunnel or batting cage -- I've never seen a guy more ready for pinch-hitting, pinch-running or going to the outfield," said Alou. "He is always ready and loose. He's a high-strung guy and you gotta like him."

Rookie Todd Linden will take Mohr's spot in right when Michael Tucker isn't in the lineup.

I'm working!!!

I don't know if that's a bigger shock to me or to those that read here that I've been jobless. Granted my job is just being a clerk, but it's better than sitting and sleeping all the time. I mean at least I challenge my brain. I had to type with a typewriter. You know that's that ancient thing that you had to use before a computer and a printer. I kept on making mistakes. It was just SAD.

I worked from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and had to be told to go home. I swear I don't know time passes by so fast even if you have a watch on. I filed and re-filed the same file about two or three times. Wasn't that exciting? Yes, yes it was. No it wasn't. I just kept the file box clear as much as possible. I did other stuff too. I checked boxes for files and got an hour lunch! That was my favorite part. I walked to shops and looked at stuff to relax myself. I know who goes shopping on their lunch hour? ME.

I have to go back tomorrow at 9.00 a.m. I guess tomorrow will be another long day. Photo copying was fun and filing what I copied was more fun. Then I also had to write in the amounts on PG & E bills that had to be paid and double check the numbers to make sure they're right.

I think it'll more typing tomorrow and making folders. Ooooo folders! Those are always fun. I got to punch holes in stuff. That was the funest! Ok at this point I'm just being really sarcastic. I'm rooting for the Giants!! GO GIANTS!! WIN ONE FOR MOHR!!

Get well soon Dustan Mohr...

The game tonight was a nail biter. I wanted to seriously take the remote to my head for a few blows to not watch it. I even had to step away for about 20 minutes because it was so tense. I'll edit it later, but you can tell from the picture that it's not good.

Heart attack...

When you're watching a game and it's an important one you just think come on team! You can do this! You have to do this! When bases are loaded with one out you're practically going to have go what now? Please no more runs. With a tense situation with the remaining tie runs on base and two outs you must be thinking please no home run. Feliz pulled it out. Hermanson gets the save and Schmidt gets the win. (Not to sure, but I think that's how it goes.)

While this is happening and the game is over you wander off to find out how the Rockies and Dodgers are doing. Last time you checked it was one run for the Rockies and none for the Dodgers. Then it's almost the end of the game and the Rockies now have 4 runs and you're thinking this is good, but then you remember how poor of a bullpen they have and it's another heart attack. You just have to wonder if you'll even catch a break with the Dodgers playing the Rockies?

It's just been another one of those good games bad games. Good we won and bad that the Dodgers won. I will work on the pictures now after this post.

Ahh..12 hours of sleep...

Who would think that I would sleep that much? Oh I think I knew I would. I almost didn't want to get out of bed knowing that there was no game on. I think my brother was surprised I was awake. Although, when he did find out I was just awake for only about 20 minutes or so just before he got home he knew it was too good to be true.

I was going to work on the pictures when I woke up, but then I just started reading on the message boards. It just takes a lot of reading to catch up when you wake up late. Then it was time for 7th Heaven which is the new season and so I have to watch. It's so good and because it's a family show. It reminds me a lot of Full House but an hour long and covers a lot more controversial issues.

Oh the strangest thing is that I had a spider in my room last night and I manage to capture it and flush it. Then today I don't know why I went out of my room, but when I came back I saw a cricket (not Jiminy but my brother wished it was) in front of his room. So I capture that and tell him. I said to him that this belongs to you since it was in front of your room. He didn't know what to do with it so he asked our parents. My mom didn't know what it was and my dad said just let it go in the backyard. Now after all of this I just wondered how we could get one in the house. At first I thought it was a spider, but thank god it wasn't. Then while eating dinner, my brother spots a big ugly one on the ceiling. I thought great. That's why my face has been itching because of bites from "stuff". If anyone has a better idea of what it was let me know!

I'm home and well the oddest things happen. My eye becomes itchy (from contacts? *shrug* and I see a small fly (I know they're always there those annoying insects!) but I couldn't kill it. I then see one in the bathroom and figure it must be the same one. That's what happened the other time. I had a fly in my room and then it flew into my brother's room.

Then at about 11.15 p.m. I saw a spider. Well I was itching and I couldn't figure out why. Then the answers came. Actually this morning when I woke up I was already I think. That's probably why I couldn't sleep so well last night. Oh well you win some and you lose some. I never did get to work on the pictures, but since I was at the game I'll just work on it now and edit this post with the links.

Giants vs Dodgers 09-26-04

OMG! NOAH LOWRY!

He's so nice! Yes, I got to meet him! The highlight of the day. He's so nice! Yes, I know I said he was nice already, but he's cool. He asks everyone how they're doing and then signs. He's so sweet. If you're getting the impressions of a crush well, I admire him. He's already wiser than me and not by much since we're close in age. If Barry Bonds can praise him so can I.

I was able to see the game and all and catch Lou Seal doing some great dance moves. I can't believe it's crazy when Bonds hits a HR. I mean honestly he's great. He has the makings of a legend like the sign. OK maybe it's just me being star struck twice in a game. I mean sitting so close to team was crazy! Seeing Lou Seal use a water cooler bottle and banging on the Giants dugout roof. It was a good game except one call by the umpire. I'm like what the hell? He made up for it later in the game and he also had to be escorted out of the stadium, but it's ok.

I loved shouting and almost lost my voice, but it just became horse-ish. The dumbest thing was these four girls sitting in the front row. They're like cute butt 57 (or insert number)! They weren't into the game and was just there because it was something to do. I can't believe high school girls are like that. Walking in with Coach and Louis Vuitton purses like they're all that. No respect for the sport. I mean they're like he's cute and he's cute. Please learn something before you go to the game. You'd think they could learn names once at the park by looking at the jumbotron.

The best part had to be the heckling to the umpire 88. Someone said did you look with you good eye? And towards the end we said that he's a bum or something. Then it was Milton Bradley (yes I know it sounds like the board game maker) and someone said, "Candyland and Chutes and Ladders.) That was just funny. I was laughing at that guy. It's true that those games are made by Milton Bradley. At least he's not Coco Crisp.

BEAT L.A.!!!

That's what I pictured while listening to the radio broadcast of the game today. If there's one thing I can't stand it's the Fox sports guys calling the game. Call me spoiled or whatever, but it's just plain annoying and to top it off they were showing the Mets/Cubs game which we have a slight interest in. It was better listening to the game on the radio anyway because it was real time and the TV was just slightly off.

It was a nail bitter and I really would have needed Pepto-Bismol if I had a weak stomach. Thank god I don't. I also have to thank the Baseball God. At least something happen that really helped out the team to take this one from L.A. Pedero Feliz hits a grand slam. If I wasn't sitting down I'd be jumping up and down until I fell through the floor. I know I'm too into baseball. It's just that after two losses it was a must win. We had to keep the pressure on the Dodgers and then keep up with the Cubs.

The game was really good. I mean it was catch up almost all the time and then we were leading, but then tied again. I was getting scared of what would happen if the game tied. It would really have me going what now if I was at the park.

I look like a homeless person...

because I haven't combed my hair. Yes, I finally gave up on combing my hair. Why? There's no point when it'll just get messy again anyway. Plus I like the look. It's given me wavy hair (oh by the way my hair is naturally wavy). I'll have up pictures up soon when I get around to it like the clothes I was going to handwash. If you know about that then you'll know how long it'll take me unless something good happens or I get really good pictures of something.

I guess I'll just have a lot of pictures up with my hair only. Kind of boring if you ask me. But oh well I guess that's how it is sometimes. Oh wait! It just dawned on me that I have pictures of cute people. So I guess I'll do that today. I get paranoid when I'm in my room of flies and spiders. Well guess what? I won the spider thing. Odd how my spider sense is a little off, but I did have this odd bite yesterday. I wonder if the cause was from the spide that was near my bed? Good thing I saw it fast and captured it then proceeded to torture it. I also think I have spider bites on my face, but that's another story (along with possible West Nile? no I didn't have it after all).

Ok that's the chant I heard and was hearing in my head when I was walking to the post office to mail something and to pick up a package that I was too lazy to get out of bed to accept. Either way I would have had to go to the post office. Alright enough of the good part of the day. I also should have known that the world wasn't right today when my dad was making spaghetti and still didn't know how to after a couple of times. It's easier than Ramen for heaven's sake! Oh he also didn't seem to notice the already open bottle of sauce in the fridge. WHY and HOW can you miss it?

The game was going good. Bonds hits number 702. Good going and congraduations. Then Torrealba hits one out. Those would be the only runs of the game. Then it was the Dodgers to play catch up. We did well for keeping the score close. I still have hope in our guys. They've worked hard and they deserve the division.

Everyone seems to think that Hermanson blew it. I don't think he did. At first I thought yes, but it wasn't him. It was the curse of KENT! Yeah that cocky guy. He was beamed by Hermanson. OK maybe I should start from the beginning. I believe we're down a few runs and then we score some. Then I forgot which inning the rookie Backe throws one nears Bonds's back foot. Bonds was pissed and charged the mount. Lucky he didn't do anything. There was a warning to the Giants that if someone else did something then Alou would get the boot. That happened when Hermanson hit Kent. both of them left. It was a sad day. If Hermanson is out for the season I will be crying.

I'm actually tired of seeing Kent. Bleh and I didn't even know he was on the team and stuff until people talked about it. There's always the next game and it's against the Dodgers. I can see them all at the message board and even starting a thread saying they're 1.5 ahead. Oh well. They're going to lose a player on Saturday because he's just trying to observe the custom of the Jews. I have no problem. The next bit of good news has to be Gane who threw about 80 pitches that's what I've read. So he's not going to be nice and fresh to kill us.

O.T. (Off Topic) Every time I hear a fire truck...

it makes me laugh when the horn is honked. Why would I laugh at the fire department? I'm not laughing at their job and what they're about but at someone. My cousin's fiancee works at the fire house that a couple of blocks away and said he would honk the horn if he was driving. Now every time I hear a horn honking I think about him and laugh. I also have to wonder if he's honking to say, "I'm driving!" or if it's for cars to get out of the way and they have to resuce someone. It's interesting to find it out now.

I wonder if I can visist the fire house? I have thought about it since middle school since I used to walk by it whenever I felt like walking home from school. I should actually go or ask if that's even possible. I first have to know the schedule that he works then maybe. I'll do that. It'll be my field trip for the day. I dreamed that I had white hair. It was all underneath the stuff I have now, but it wouldn't go away. At first I thought it was just a couple here and there, but it was most of it and on the left side. Scary. Then I had to figure out what kind of hair dye I could use to change it.

OK that's like worse case senario, but it could happen. I know out of all the things to dream about or have a dream about I have it about hair. Go figure I can't control my brain when I'm sleeping. YES!!!! 1/2 BACK!

OMG! (Oh my god for those of you that can't read short hand.) The Giants are on fire! I mean the great play by Durham to clear the bags and of course he was tagged out (it's one of those you make the call type ones) and that made it great! We were up one and then Jeff Kent (former Giant) hit the only run of the game for his team. Sure he hit it off Noah (everyone thinks is cute) Lowry. It didn't matter. I mean this guy has the real good nasty stuff in his change up. (I have got to learn more about the pitches that the pitchers throw. Hopefully I'll learn move over the years, but baseball changes so I must as well.) Everyone on the message boards says that Kent doesn't like the Bay Area and he even said that it cost too much to live here. OK, but he's on deck and hit and whatever and gets booed and then he wonders why. Gee I can't answer that because it's a given.

The Dodgers board doesn't look good. It looked like the board when we were losing. But who cares about them? Not me! I'm so happy that the Giants are playing so well. Everyone is doing their part to help out. I mean Schmidt isn't doing well, but Lowry and Tomko have stepped up to the plate (pitcher mound should be more accurate) to help him out. We haven't retaliated against the Astros yet but it's OK. We will get them in the game and that's what hurts more. The highlight had to be the Astro fan wearing some away jersey and after Bonds was walked for a 4th time he just took it off. That was great! Oh there was an article where Kent said that Bonds wasn't doing his fair share. I guess he missed the game where Bonds threw someone out going to home? He also did make a run and catch tonight too. I think Bonds might give the "stank eye"* to Kent for saying that about him. He's good to be playing at 40 and he does what he does to get the job done.

*"stank eye" is a term used by Mike Krukow who is a Giants announcer. I think it means something along the evil eye to give a little warning to the person who he's looking at that I'm not pleased with that but I have my eye on you.

Feliz was the big surprised. I was pointed out on how Feliz is doing and when I'm a fan of Mohr's that Mohr wasn't doing so well either. I don't look at stats that much compared to everyone else. I just do it based on day to day. I could look at stats, but then I'd more informed. I do look look at stats, but not too often.

Anyway it was a great game. I loved it. OK I'm starting to sound like a broken record. We have taken one game from the Astros, but can we take another? We shall have to wait until 7.15 p.m. to find out. Noah Lowry is going to pitch.

I did get up to have a little snack and then it was time for dinner. After dinner I went to my room to watch 7th Heaven since it's the new season and I love that show. I can't believe how much has changed on that show since the last season or the plots. People are missing and a couple of the original cast are back for I don't know how many episodes.

After that I watched What Not to Wear because that's my second favorite show on Mondays. I mean I guess I just want that makeover so bad or tips on how I can dress better. For those of you who don't know I dress like a guy and or like I don't put too much thought into it. And I know if I went on What Not to Wear they would get rid of my monkey clothes.

Back to the message boards in between commercials to continue reading on the Giants. I know I've spent I don't know how many hours now on there. Now it's time for the News.

Horoscope: Don't give up so quickly. Even the pyramids were built one stone at a time.

Routemaster buses line up in formation for their 50th anniversary celebration in Finsbury Park, north London, July 25, 2004. Lumbering through the narrow streets of London, the capital's red double-decker buses are as much part of the cityscape as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. But 50 years after their debut, the much-loved Routemaster buses, with their conductors, hop-on, hop-off platforms and pull-cord bells, are being removed from the streets, condemned as expensive antiques.
