The reason why Bonds was pitched to the way he was...

I found this at MLB.com in the Padres section of the news about Barry Bonds.

"Believe me, he wasn't trying to walk him," manager Bruce Bochy said. "He was trying to make his pitches and he just got out of sync there."

Peavy said he was not trying to pitch around Bonds.

"In the second at-bat, I was trying to be careful with him, but in the third at-bat, I couldn't throw strikes," Peavy said. "I was trying to throw more down the middle and work him away, and I just couldn't do it. That was not an intentional walk, by no means."
